In the continuance of a tradition which began in 1958, each year the President of the United States has annually recognized Law Day, during which citizens around our nation gather to recognize the struggles of workers in their fight for better wages and working conditions, as well as to honor the rules of law and judicial system we have developed in the United States.
For many years, the Westchester County Bar Association has annually participated in a Law Day Ceremony at the Westchester County Supreme Court Courthouse. This year the ceremony was presided over by the Hon. Mary Smith, Supreme Court Justice, and James L. Hyer, a Senior Associate at Bashian & Farber, LLP., who was asked to be the Keynote Speaker before a group of nearly 125 individuals who were to be naturalized just following his speech.
During his speech, Mr. Hyer spoke of his own grandparents’ immigration to the United States, their hard work and dedication which led to their success, and sought to inspire those in the audience to follow their own version of the American Dream. Following his address, Westchester County Clerk Timothy Idoni conducted the swearing in of the group as new citizens.
